SS Soldbuch worse for wear!

Gents,

These documents were with the body for 5 years and discovered in 1950, perhaps that will explain their condition but I am not sure if the story holds true! Perhaps!

Any documents found today I would expect to be in a far worse condition! If at all legible! FCG still finds remnants of these items!

I know the 32 SS Rgt. items were found in a crate and also many documents to the 116 Pz.Div. "Windhund" were found in an ammo crate....all showing conditions of age...some recognisable....some not!

Hello to all,

To illustrate the state of conservation with the documents of 32. SS Freiwillige Grenadier Division 30 Januar, here is some images of a Wehrpass resulting from a buried found box. This box contained very probably all the documents of 6. / SS Frw Gren Rgt 86.

Hello Polux,

thanks for posting. It is interesting to see this Wehrpass. If it were in mint conidition and you did not know where it came from, I would have questioned it's authenticity just based on the handwriting and the unit that issued it, it just looks like a 'quickly-filled out' Wehrpass. That is why it is great to see examples of all types of books. I saw a lot of the 30. Januar documents and the crate they came in at a show in Berlin a few years ago. I was quite impressed!

I possess 9 Wehrpass of 30 Januar. Some names appearing in my Wehrpass appear in the magnificent Michaelis's book. I possess also about 50 Stammkarte as well as different documents (Verlustmeldung, Grabmeldung) of this division.

Hi Polux!

Then I guess you know Rolf! Based on his book I went all around Vogelsang - around the Kraftwerk there. Very, very interesting!!! The documents found and shown in the book are a great insight to the functioning of a division and what sort of paperwork was actaully still being done very late in the war. The Verwaltung functioned till the very end!

Just a foot note to say that i've found paper items both on the surface and buried which are still legible and in good enough condition to conserve, mostly books and newspapers though. Still dreaming of that box full of wehrpasses though

Hi Simon,

You may find your box of Wehrpäßen one day....imagine it.......you will open it up dreaming of DK and RK holders only to find you have the Backerie Kompanie of a Landesschützen Bataillon!!!!
That would be a find but I would imagine heart sinking!?!?!?!

It's going to be from Le.Geb.Beob.Abt. 38 (a unit which ended the war up here) and will include several with entries for the balloon observers badge

On the "Marschbefehl" document you can see in the upper left the name
"Holzer"! So he was a member of the SS-Panzer-Ausb.u.Ers.Rgt Holzer(nc & DKiG holder) of the SS-Panzerbrigade "Westphalen"!!!!!

Dear Jan!

The story is true! The Soldbuch was found 1950, when Fritz Schäffer was exhumed in the military cemetary in Breuna (Bezirk Kassel in Germany). He ist still buried there in grave number 39. The items were sent 1955 to his parents to Graz in Styria/Austria. Fritz Schäffer was then officially declared dead on 13.03.1957!

The EK II he received on 05.08.1942 as a member of the 2. Kompanie SS-Panzer-Regiment 5 "Wiking". From Juli - November 1942 the Division advanced from the Mius-Stellung into the Caucasus to Grosnyj-Ordshonikidse.

The transfer order reads Unterscharführer Majer, not Major.

My Name is Heinrich SCHÄFFER and I am collecting informations about my family member Fritz Schäffer. I still have a photograph and a letter from the Wehrmachtsauskunftstelle.
