    Handwritten Letters

Okay, here's some handwriting reading practice for Andy. Well, actually it's too help me in making out some words.
I'm just getting round to finally translating\deciphering some of the letters that accompany some of the wehrpasses in my colection. This one is to Alois Schieß's (careful how you spell it) wife after his death on 8th August 1941. This is the first paragraph with my take on it. I'll post the others tomorrow.

My take on this is as follows. Word in red XXXXXx is one I can't make out. Anyone any ideas? Also as my grammar is crap (never done O level or even had a German lesson) n and m's maybe wrong.

Breitschwerdt (DKiG 09.06.43 as Hauptmann 5./ GR (mot.) 119)
    Lt. u. Komp. Führer
    22 070B

    Im Felde, den 9.8.41

    Sehr geehrte Frau Schieß,

Lieber muß ich Ihnen und Ihren kindern, als XXXXXXXX , die Mitteilung machen daß Ihr lb. Mann Alois Schieß, bei einen Fliegerangriff im Ssynewka seinem Fahneneide getreu der Heldentodgefallen ist.

    Hi,
I think the word is Kompanieführer.
I also think that it should read Leider and not Lieber.
    Cheers
    Christoph

      Hi Christoph,

Thanks for that spot, Kompanieführer it is. Also Leider and not Leiber - should have seen that.

      Cheers,
      Gary.

it reads 100% correctly as follows:

        Breitschwerdt im Felde, den 9.8.41
        Lt. u. Komp.-führer
        22070B

        Sehr geehrte Frau Schieß!

Leider muß ich Ihnen und Ihren Kindern, als Kompanieführer die traurige Mitteilung machen, daß Ihr lieber Mann Alois Schieß bei einem Fliegerangriff in SSnewka seinem Fahneneid getreu den Heldentod gefallen ist.

            Here is your translation...

Yesterday Russian planes attacked our positions a few times and threw bombs. Your husband was hit be schrapnel in the head and was heavy wounded and unconscious. Although first aide was immediately there, you husband could not be helped, since the wound was too great. One hour later he gained consciousness, but later your dear husband died….

You want the entire later translated????

The original text goes as follows:

Russische Flieger griffen gestern unsere Stellung mehrmals an und warfen dabei Bomben. Ihr lieber Mann wurde dabei durch einen Bombemsplitter in den Kopf schwer verwundet und wurde bewußtlos. Obwohl gleich ärztliche Hilfe zur Stelle war, konnte ihrem lieben Mann nicht mehr geholfen werden, da die Verwundung zu groß war.

              Gruß,
              KSM
