    Sorry Patrick,
I can not see that myself. My reasons for concern are that all the other awards use a single line where the EK entries and the KVK I have been "squeezed" in. This was actually contrary to regulations as one line per award was supposed to be used.....the reason for this was even in the 40's soldiers were known to have doctored their own documents...not that this was always followed though!

To me they do not look correct....Ah, you have change your reply slightly........anyway is it possible to have a larger scan of the awards part of page 23?

    Thanks, Ian

          Suspect KVK1 entry.

And for good measure here's an enlargement of the suspect KVK1 entry.
You were quite correct that the EK and KVK1 entry are indeed both in the same hand....does the KVK2 entry look ok (it seems to match the Feldwebel promotion entry. That's what i meant in my earlier post..sorry for the confusion.)?

          Patrick.

            Feldwebel.

            Hi Gary,
here's a larger scan of the promotion. Close to the KVK2 entry?

            Patrick.

              Hi Patrick,

Well the KVK2 award entry is definitely original - same signature, colour of pen as units entries for the same period and his unit was part of VII Armee Korps. I haven't checked the FP nr but Ian could do that...I suspect it would woek out correctly.

Now with reagrds the other two entries...

The KVK1 entry is a surefire fake entry - I didn't nee a close up scan to know that As for the EK entries. Like Ian said they are 'squeezed in'. Secondly they have been supposedly authorised by the Armee Korps - this would be very unusual to say the least. EK1's were generally authorised by the division. I first I thought that the VII AK authorisation maybe a good sign but I believe the faker has just lifted this from the KVK2 entry. there is also no date and agian the award of both EK's on the same day would be very unusual (I've only seen one instance of this).

So in conclusion, my opinion is the book is 100% genuine apart from these two entries. I'm afraid it is becoming a very common thing to see...original and interesting books spiced up by the addition of more awards. One I saw recently had an original EK1 entry but someone had seen fit to add a Close Combat clasp, Infnatry Assault Badge and bizarrely an KVK2!

They are to found on militariaauktion and on quite a few well known dealers websites, some of which have sold for high prices sadly. Drop me a line and I'll point you in the direction of a few.

              Cheers,
              Gary.

Also, I think there are two other interesting points.
First, the EK1 & 2 entry seems to have been written over the stamp. Secondly the "K" in both the EK and KVK entries looks the same. They seem to have been written by the same person I guess.
                looks fake.

                  A silver lining.

                  Hello Gary,
thanks for the informative reply. It's obviously dissapointing to discover the awards are later additions but the experience of both yourself and Ian has helped to educate me further, so perhaps i won't get caught out next time.
It's a shame that the faker has seen fit to embelish a perfectly interesting book ( i bought it for all the combat entries as that's my main research enjoyment).
Thanks for all the pointers, it's appreciated.

                  Patrick.

Sorry to hear that a wonderfull book has been alterated by a piece of s**t that only want to make money. Of course still a desirable piece, lot of combat and asigments for this soldier. Show us more from your collection.

                      Hi Patrick,

I echo all above. It is a shame that it has been done as this was an interesting book in the first place.
Maybe you can contact the person that sold you it and explain the situation. ....ask where he originally got it?

I have a good idea where it did come from and this is becoming all too common with this dealer....and a few others. One in particular who know bugger all about documents but sells them as his "source" is OK...when confronted that he sells rats droppings he doesn't believe it.!

If this one came from where I think then it is time for him to be outed!

Intersting point that El-Al about it being written over the stamp as this can be a give away....however it can also be this way for an original entry.

Best thing to do when in doubt is leave it...however if you have already bought it then post it here and we will all try and verify it...that's what we are here for!

Sorry it turned out this way!

                      Regards, Ian

                        Hi Ian,
no need to be sorry, i have learned from the experience so it's not a dead loss after all. I'll be seeing the previous owner on Saturday as it happens, so if he remembers where it's from i'll let you know on the weekend.

                        All the best,
                        Patrick.

                          Hallo Richard

Good to see that you`re not too disappointed about the fact that the entries are most likely fake! Hope you get the man who screwed it!

                          regards

                          Arne
