    Feldpostnummer?

    Dear all,

Could somebody please give me what he has on the following Feldpostnummer: 188887
Unfortunately no date connected with it, it is scratched on the back of a pilot´s badge.

    Cheers, Frank

    Frank,

There's one too many numbers for it to be a Feldpost nummer....can you take another look? Or did you type one too many "8"'s?

It could be suffixed by a letter to denote Stab, Kompanie etc.....otherwise with 6 numbers I can not help you!

I will look for possible Luftwaffen units that are similar....

      Dear Ian,

Thanks! It is scratched in very faintly. If one is too many than it would be most likely the first numeral, the "1". I will try to scan it, but I doubt it will be visible in a scan. But as I said, if one has the go then the 1 in front, it could be just a normal pair of scratches, while the eights and the 7 are more clearly visible.

A scan would help as "88887" did not exist...or any others in the 88000+ series!

You could scan it and then reverse the colours or convert to a negative...that usually makes things a little clearer!

          Dear Ian,

Stop, stop, stop, please! How embarrassing! The scanner did much better than I thought, it revealed the truth. At first I thought 88887, but then I turned it around and NOW it nmakes sense. It actually is:

          L37261

Check out the scans, first the wrong "upside down" number that read 88887 to me:

That's better! However it is not L 37261 or any combination of 372*1.....none of these were Luftwaffe units.....

L37**1..... I will try and check other combinations...

              /Ian

                Frank,

Still a bit difficult but most combinations are not flying units but Flak units...however L 37881 belonged to II. Gruppe, Kampfgeschwader 26.....could it be this?

                /Ian

                  Dear Ian,

I am pretty sure the fourth cypher is a "2", the next one also hardly can be anything but a "6", last one should be a "1".

The only one I am not sure about is the "7" after the "3".

Strangely enough, this guy also had a Erdkampfabzeichen besides the pilot´s badge. He lived in the Breslau area if that is of help.

37821 was Heer and a Kraftfahr park!

It looks like he didn't scratch it too well! I will see if there are other combinations of 378*1

Are you happy with L 378**? I can not really make out what the third digit could be otherwise...and the fifth definately looks like a 1....narrowing it down to 10 options of 378*1!

Lets also look at L 3*261.....

                    /Ian

No combination of L3*261 would match a flying unit...one which was a Kw.Kolonne!

                      ?????

                        Dear Ian,

I think L372** is for sure, don´t know about the rest to come. I "rescratched" his lines that are clearly visible in red.

                        Cheers, Frank

Maybe we are not looking for a LW flying unit!!!
There are not L 372** that resemble this at all! The only one in the catagory is L 37296 which belonged to KG 100 and KG 4......

Maybe it is a LW Feld unit.....maybe Flak or :

                          L 37201 - Kommando Flughafen Bereich 6/XII ?????

                            Dear Ian,

Maybe, but the guy is a pilot (i have a pic with him in full flight gear) and the scratching was done on his pilot´s badge.

                              Hi Frank,

I know that ....I am saying there are no flying units with any combination of the numbers that we can see...either he has got it wrong or we have got it wrong!!!

I will take another look tomorrow....

                              /IAn
