    gas mask canister number help.

I am a german re-enactor,and I do take my hobby VERY serious. So here's my question: I want to paint my ID number on the side of my gas mask canister,re-enactors generally use some part of there social security number ( easy to remember ). Now,I portray the 10'th SS Frundsberg. Which of the following would be a more accurate number to use : a 4 digit number in the 5000 range,or a 3 digit number in the 400 range ? Can someone PLEASE help? Danke,Andreas.

There's no number range that is specific to Heer, SS, Luftwaffe or Kriegsmarine....they tended to use their Kriegsstammrollennummer I believe!
So something like 1256/44 would be sufficient......he was number 1256 and joined the unit in 1944.
On some occassions they would write their Feldpost number which would identify their unit......

    FP Nr. 21003 :
    SS-Divisionsstab, SS-Kriegsberichter-Kompanie (= A) und Sicherungs- Kompanie (= B) SS-Panzergrenadier-Division 10.
    1.3.1944 Stab u. Einheit (10. SS-Division).

      Thank you

Thank you Ian for the reply to my gas mask canister number question. I did not want to post it in here because it's not soldbuch related, but it would not let me post it in the equipment section for some reason. Again,I thank you very much Ian for your descriptive answer. Danke,Andreas.
