Help needed with Glider Pilots Wehrpass

I am hoping Stijn or someone who is familiar with this area can help tell me a little more about this book. Is it possible to say if this man ( or the units he was with ) was ( were ) involved in any gliderborne operations?

Any comments at all would be much appreciated.

    Thank you,

    EQ

    Glider Wehrpass

    Hi Eric,

Well my friend it seems that you have a very interesting Wehrpass there => could you give me the guys name ? ( as with this info it is much more easy for me to find some background information about this person and his possible missions , when the name is protected you can PM me )

Did your guy win any awards ? is the glider pilots badge entered, etc ... => as from the unit entry's this is a classic Gliders carreer , first serving with a Flak unit ( as in many cases ) and then attracted towards a glider training school ( he was certainly a pre war trained Glider enhusiast , etc ... ) and from there on towards certain units ( in this case : a DFS staffel ) , I might be mistaking but from what I think ( the entry Ostfront ) it is very likely that he was involved in the operation of the Kuban bridgehead )

Hoping for some more info and hopefully i will be able to help you out

    Cordial Greetings,

Thanks Stijn, any additinal information would be much appreciated. His name is Alfred Kallmeyer. Under his awards only the pilots badge is entered ( not the glider pilots badge ), but his
"segelflugzuegfhr.schein" is part of the group. He was also issued a paratrooper helmet and pants. Can you tell me any more about the units he served with? Were they involved in anything interesting?

Also, can anyone help me with the script on the service page?
Would especically like to know what the 1.3.44 entry is having to do ( I think ) this partisans.

      Thanks again and regards,

      Eric

        Fun => Wehrpass

        Hello Eric,

I like the Wehrpass very much and I can already tell you the following, I have tracked Herr Kalmeyer down already and he died on 23.07.1972 in a planecrash ( need to check it out more ) .

Iff his MIlitary Glider pilots licence is part of the grouping ( red one ) then he was certainly a trained Glider pilot ( even iff no glider pilots badge is entered in the WP ) => on wich date is the pilots badge entered ? it is quite common that awards and other info is not entered but this gives us ( the researcher ) the problem of not getting a complete picture on the man's wartime service .

Regarding the unit => LLG 1 , he was to lately trained to have taken part in the Kreta episode . ( I wil check my references tonight more into detail to see if I can track his name down for particular missions ) I have a already a little more info for you :

at the end of 1941 there where about 10 DFS Staffeln active at the Eastern front ( mostly active in transporting goods, material, ammo, etc .. ) , in April 1942 these where changed towards so called Ubungs Staffeln ( as in the WP => Ub. Staffel ), the overstock on personell from these units where transferred back towards their German bases ( such as Langendiebach, Freiburg, Parchim, etc .. ) , in Oktober of 1942 these names where swithched again ( as can be traced in this WP => became 1 DFS Staffel / LLG 1 ) .

At the same time the eastern front began to colapse under Russian pressure and the Kubanbridgehead needed to be evacuated => therefore many Glider ( transporting units ) where replaced towards that area to help the evacuation , etc ... ) and thgis particular Staffel was also part of this.

The next trace I have after the Russian adventure is that this unit is stationed in France ( namely near Valence ) and it did fell under the command of the XI FK, it is known that for this time this Staffel had the following planes : 32 Hs. 126 ( = towing plane ) and 120 DFS 230 ( glider plane )

In early 1944 the LLG1 was transferred towards Croatia & Serbia to become active again on the Eastern front. ( and yes parts of the LLG1 where active in DRvar ( and this is probably why you are asking, etc .. ) I have checked it just a few minutes ago ( I have talked towards one off the few survinving Drvar Glider pilots ) and im 100 % certainthat herr Kalmeyer was not involved in the Drvar operation!!!!!

        21.02.1941 - 31.01.1943 : Einsatz im Heimatkriegsgebiet
        01.02.1943 - 20.03.1943 : Einsatz im Operationsgebiet der Ostfront
        21.03.1943 - 01.09.1943 : Einsatz im bereich der Rumanische ( ? ) Luftwaffe
01.10.1943 - 20.11.1943 : Einsatz in dem besetzten Gebieten Frankreich
        21.11.1943 - 29.02.1944 : Einsatzbereitschaft im Mittelmeergebiet
01.03.1944 - 05.10.1944 : Einsatz im Bandenkampf im Ostserbein, Bandeneinsatze im Sudserbien, Beobachtungsfluge uber Rumanien und Bulgarien

Eric can you also provide me with the following info => wich Rank did he finally reach during the war ? , im also very interested in the red Glider licence ( is there any chance of showing scans, etc .. )

PLease keep me informed about novelty's about this little grouping as im very interested

        Cordial greetings

          Stijn,

Thanks for all the information. I appreciate it ( and so does my father who just bought this grouping )

I will post a pic of the schein soon ( it is the blue on not the red one )

Just a couple of other questions if possible.

          1. How do you know for sure he did not take part in the Drvar operation? Was his section of LLG1 ( III./ ) an element of this unit which did not participate ?

          2. Why would he have been issued a paratrooper helmet and trousers ?

Thanks again for the info and I will post the other pic soon ( waiting for my dad to take a color copy of it and send it to me )

            Glider pilots Wehrpass

            Hello Eric,

Regarding the Drvar mission => I know it for sure because I have good contatcs with the 2 still living Drvar Glider pilots ( from wich one is the only Glider officer who took part in this mission = Leutnant Sieg ) , I have asked him about your man and he confirmed me very clearely that Alfred Kalmeyer was not one of the Drvar participants, I will phone the other participant also today and ask him about your man.

I also could not track his name down towards this particular mission ( keep in mind there where not that many Gliders involved !!!! ) trough official written sources about the battle.

as you say it correctly ( and please let me clarify this is a little ) :

" Was his section of LLG1 ( III./ ) an element of this unit which did not participate ? "

It is not because you where part of a unit that you took part in a certain airborn mission => lets take for example the Grann Sasso raid, the choice for the Glider officer who lead this grouping did fall on Lt. Meyer Elimar and not on Lt. Busse H-J. ( altough Mr. Busse was quit more trained, took part in otehr actions already, etc ... then Mr. Meyer ) and only a minority of Glider pilots did took part in a real airborn mission !!!!!

Offcoarse the writting " Bandenkampf, etc ... " makes a heart beat faster but such a entry is nice but does not say anything about the operations, etc ... that these guys where involved in.

now towards your other question => why he was isued a para helmet, etc .... , there can be quite alot of answers towards this question : could be answered during training ( I have seen it already in pictures => a mix off gear, normal helmets worn togheter with FJ helmet )etc ...

But how do you know he was issued a FJ lid ? => ( this info is normally never in the WP ?, unless your father has the Soldbuch also ? , or otehr material such as Pictures, etc ... ), please enlighten me .

Please also ask your father about his promotions and when the pilots badge was entered ?

Nevertheless a very interesting grouping and it should not be credited less because he was not involved in a dream mission ( as I call it : such as : Drvar, Cholm, Eben Emael ) IMHO, it can affect the price while comming from a dealer but it still remains a incredible source for Glider enthousiasts !!!

                  Hi Stijn,

Here are a couple of additional pages. Thanks again for all the information.

BTW, the soldbuch is also with this group, but unfortunately the photo has been removed and pg. 22 is missing.
