    hi
ive got a soldbuch 1944/45 and in his truppenteile it s written

    4. ss-Pz.Div.5 Bat.(bot?) 1 zug.

is it 4 ss division or 5th? if the fourth it shudnt be a panzer division but a pz.gren.?

does 4 mean the companie?wot abouit that "bat."?

    thank you

    Dan

    Hi Dan
    The text : 4. ss-Pz.Div.5 Bat.(bot?) 1 zug. doesn't give any sence.
I would say something is missing.
Could you please add some photos ?
    Best regards
    AJ

        Hi Dan
From what I can see of the Soldbuch it looks OK, IMO
Concidering the fact that he served within the SS Pz Gr. Regt 8, my guess would be the last unit he served with must be some kind kind of subunit of the SS Pz Gr. Div 4 Polizei, maybe the 4th SS Artillerie Regt (?), althought I still think there are some misspelling in the unit name.

Let see whaat the guys think?
        Best regards

IMO i think it could also mean 4th company ss panzer division 5(wiking) and then the "bat" but i cant be sure.
If it was the 4th division it should have been 4th polizei panzer grenadier division as it wasnt only a "panzer" division as the wiking

Anyway let s see if some 1 else can help me!

          Thank you AJ

            Hi Dan
As I said, htere must be some misspelling regardless which unit he served in 4th or 5th SS Division.

4th Companie of the 5th SS Panzer Division, doesn't make sence either.
I would say, it would be more possible that he served in a Artillerie unit, that would explaine the 5. Bat (Batterie)

I don't like that entry one little bit it makes no sense at all. Polizei division is out as it was never a panzer division. The ersatz entry of 'ss Pz. Korp' doesn't make any sense either.

The other entries though seem fine.

There are indeed some entry's that don't match
                The 3./SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt.8 should say. 3./SS-Pol.Pz.Gren.Rgt.8 (4.SS-Pol.Div.)
                The 4.SS-Div. was never a Pz.Div. but a Pz.Gren.Div., so it should say 4.SS-Pol.Pz.gren.Div.
The SS-Pz.Gren.Ausb.u.Ers.Batl.4 was indeed a ersatz unit for the 4.SS-Pol.Div. and as you can read stationed at Wahlau.

Overall the Soldbuch looks ok to me. Maybe if you can have some more scans from the book especialy the page with the Solbuch checks on it, maybe we can see there some unit stamps?

Also what unit is mentioned on his award doc?

I would have to agree with Simon. Also the Germans would use Battr. rather then Bat. for Batterie.

i will try to post pics as soon as i can but i ve to say that this soldbuch came from an austrian family where the soldier was and the soldiers son wrote his dad s military history statin that nearly at the end of the war he was with his unit near kopenaghen which i think it was where the 4th polizei division stationed in the last days of the war?

That would make sense. I would very much like to see that WB in black doc and any other entries made in the same hand and colour ink as the 4 ss pz div ones.

Just because those two entries are bad does not automatically mean the SB is bad or that a faker added them.

i cant post pisc cos im not a asociation member unfortunately but i can send pics by emails.
It s not true that ss pz.gren.regiment 8 was called ss pz."polizei"gren.rgt 8 only cos it was called witout the polizei title as well.
I can assure the soldbuch is original 100% with all original entries but just that "4.ss.pz.div." was the only "weird" thing.
If someone want i can send the file through email of other pictures and of the document that the son made about his father so you might help me translatin it as well cos i dont know german.

                        thank you

Posting this for Dan, although it doesn't help us with the soldbuch his movements do indicate the Polizei division.
