    Hi Ian,

    It reads:

Hauptwachtmeister Prüfung der II/Flak Rgt. 26 am 5 Mai 1942 mit "gut" bestanden.
21.1.-25.1.45 Kurzlehrgang für Panzernahbekämpfung 2/(?) A.A. (Erdkampf) 739 mit Erfolg"

Do you want the translation or are you OK with that?

Hi Ian, thanks for deciphering it for me. Correct me if I`m wrong with my translation, as I`m sure I will be. I make the first one to be - First sergeants exam in which he received a good pass.
The other one, is it a short course in close combat tank fighting in which he was successful? If that is correct, at the time of the course, he was serving with a Heavy Flak Unit, was he being taught how to turn the flak guns he`d been trained to use, the quad 2cm flakvierling 38 or the flak 37, into an anti tank role or was it panzerfausts and the like he was being trained to use, being late in the war I suppose everyone was being taught how to deal with tanks, not just the infantry soldier who was guaranteed to come up against tanks.

      Cheers
      Ian

        Hi Ian,
Not sure what the US rank equivelant is being ex Army myself I use British ranks...equivelant RAF would be something like Station Warrant Officer or WO I.
Re: the course it was for close quarter tank combat , not exactly sure what weapons were use as I have this entry in Lw Flak and Heer Infanterie...I would imagine for Flak it would be 8.8!?!?! If the unit was equipped with them...a heavy Flak unit should have these and perhaps the 2cm Flakvierling 38 is a bit small and perhaps cumbersome for such an action?!

        Happy hogmany!!!

        Ian

P.S. I'm full of flu and won't be going anywhere...maybe a generous hot toddy!?!?!?!?!

          Happy New Year

Happy New Year Ian, and the same to all other forum members. I think your entitled to a more than a small toddy Ian, hospital on your birthday and now flu, it does sound a bit like old age creeping up on you, though I`m one to talk.

          Cheers
          Ian
