    war graves registration

I am constantly coming across wartime snapshots of German gravesites well detailed eg. I can see the name, dob, location of death and unit of the fallen German solider.
Many of these are not listed on the German war graves commission site when I search for them.
Do you reckon they would appreciate scans of the gravesites or the data from the snapshot to help with their database ?

Has anyone ever tried to help them out this way ?
They could fill in some massive gaps in their database if they assigned a staff member to buy up all gravemarker snaps. They are not exepensive and are very common, and like I mentioned earlier, a great percentage of these deaths are not already accounted for on their site.
Even though most German wartime graves were not permanent at least it would be some info, and most of the time when graves were transferred to permanent locations, they were still in the same locale.

I've been in touch with the Volksbund before but not in connection with grave photos of soldiers not in their database. Get in touch with them and ask, at least they may get a confirmation of death with a date although locations would be difficult.

If they are interested in scans please do tell us. It could be a great opportunity for the collecting community to do some good.

As for buying grave photos. Firstly, i don't think they'd have the resources to do that, secondly it would be plain wrong for them to have to buy such information, competing as they would be against collectors.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

Yes they would. Several times a year I get a newsletter from them. They would very much apriciate it, and so would the familys of those soldiers. I'm still looking for a relative. The last thing we heared he went out on patrol in Africa. And never came back. He's not listed with the Volksbund.

Believe me, they would like it, and so will the family of these men.

      Cheers
