    Feldpost Nummer 05450

    Hello,

We are trying to find out more about Debbie's grandfather, a Gefreiter in the 3rd (we think) Gebirgsjager Regiment.

Does anyone know to which unit this Feldpost number relates, and their location in late December 1942?

    Many thanks,

    Paul and Debbie.

    FP Nr. 05450 belonged to:

    (Mobilisation-1.1.1940) 2.Gesch.Grenzwacht-Abschnitt 193
    (15.9.1940-31.1.1941) Cancelled
    (27.1.1942-14.7.1942) Regimentsstab m. Stabskompanie Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 114

The dates mean sometime during that period!

    Regards,
    Ian

      Hello,

      Thankyou for your reply.

We have letters from Debbie's grandfather to his Frau, date stamped between 09.06.42 and 07.08.43, and all have the FP 05450 stamp on them.

We also have a telegram from (guessing) his Oblt.u.Kp-Chef, dated 3.8.1943 and marked F.P.Nr.05450, telling his Frau that his personal effects have been destroyed after Abwehrkampfe.

So we were wondering where he was at the time of his death?

      Many thanks

      Paul and Debbie.

Do you have the name of Debbie's grandfather and date of death? I can then check the German War graves information.

As a relative you can also contact the WASt and get copies of his personal records (if they have them that is!).

Interestingly from the info I provided I can not find a Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 114!?!?!?

        I will have another look.................

Right.... there is a mistake in one of the references I use.....

That FP Nr. belonged to Stab Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 144 of 3 Gebirgs Division. From June 1943 the Division was fighting in the south Ukraine in east Carpathia.

            Dear Ian,

Thank you so much for the information you have provided. I'm so glad that I've found you! Your valued help gives me many clues to a wealth of information.

Sadly my Mum and my Grandmother have both passed away, but I think I know more now than they ever let on. I guess it was too distressing for them to tell me.

My Grandfather's name is Anton Niedermayer, born on 12/4/1906 in Wien. We have a telegram reporting that he died on 25/12/1942 and then a later telegram to say he had actually died on 27/12/1942

If you can check the War Graves information I would be so very grateful.

With many thanks and kind regards,

            Debbie

              Hi Debbie,

Unfortunately your Grandfather is not listed on the German War Graves site which means he has no known grave or they are still updating their records.

However, if you fill in a Tracing Request from the site listed below, give all the details requested i.e. your name, address and relation to Herr Niedermayer also his information they should send you copies of what they have on him.....when you get a reply come back and I (we!) will translate and/or give you more info.

              Regards,
              Ian

P.S. The request will take around 6 months and will cost probably €40.-
