little bit more info 12 wehrm betreuungkomp was in norway and he was taken pow in 45

Betreuungskompanie? is that something like 'welfare company'?

not seen that before. I notice the posted in note confirming the entries are correct mentions the 210 Inf.Div. looking through my records that would place the guy at Harstad in North Norway at the war's end. There's mention of a Betreuungsstelle in the town with 19 men.

BTW, Doug it's not quite correct to say 'taken POW' when speaking of German troops in Norway. Firstly the term POW was never used, just as POW camps never existed for them. Also, there simply wasn't anyone there to take them prisoner. They were simply ordered to gather into so called 'Reservations' where they remained under the command of their own officers and looked after themselves. As allied troops did turn up disarming, mine clearing and other work got under way but as you can see it took some time for kit to be handed in. Note also how efficiently and carefully it's all noted in his SB. The war may have been lost but the paperwork still had to carry on in true efficient German style.

The stuff noted in red as well as his rifle and bayonet would be what was handed in. His clothing he would have kept.
Yes, he ended the war in Norway. The fact that he only handed his rifle in 2 months after the end of the war gives you an idea of how much freedom the Germans in Norway had after the liberation.
