    Unknown ID disc?

    Hi all,

    Not sure if I'm in the right place as its a question about an id disk.

    I received the disc in with a number of badges and have been wondering how to decifer the information?

    Top line : 3 / Sch R.14
    second line: 286

    Any help appreciated.

    Regards,

    Angus

    I think it is the 14.Schützen Regiment. the 286 is the Wehrstammrollennummer.

    Schützen-Regiment 14

    1. Aufstellung:

    * 15.11.1938, Friedensstandort Oppeln (II. z. Z. Olmütz), Wehrkreis VIII; 10.8.1940 Abgabe des II.
    an Kradschützen-Bataillon 55, erhält dafür Stab III./Infanterie-Regiment 243 (* Danzig als
    III./Landes-Polizei-Regiment); 15.9.1941 Abgabe der 4. und 9. an Schützen-Regiment 128 (23.
    Panzer-Division);
    Panzergrenadier-Regiment 14 seit 5.7.1942.

    2. Gliederung:

    1939 I. 1-4, II. 5-8
    1940 (8.8.) I. 1-5, II. 6-10, 11. sIG
    1941 (10.9.) I. 1-4, II. 5-8, 9. sIG
    1944 Pionier-Kompanie

    3. Unterstellung:

    5. Panzer-Division:
    1939 Oberschlesien, Polen
    1940 Belgien, Frankreich (Somme)
    1941 Jugoslawien, Griechenland, Oktober Mittelrußland (Tula)
    1942 desgleichen (Rshew)
    1943 desgleichen (Orel, Pripjet)
    1944 Nordukraine (Kowel), Juli Litauen, Ostpreußen
    1945 Ostpreußen

    4. Ersatz:

      Many thanks tommy!

      I'm really not too sure on my german so I'd guess that translations to what you've written are:

      1) Formation date
      2) composition
      3) ???
      5) Places served
      4) ???

      There bottom number is the number assigned to the individual. Was this same number continuously re issued as regiments were formed and re formed?

      What does the 3 / at the begining signify?

      Many, many thanks as it gives a "story" to the disc!

      Regards,

      Angus

        I think it is the Kompanie.the romania sign II is bataillon.The Arabic letter 1 is Kompanie or regiment by a Division.

        Ersatz->substitute

        Gliederung->Division

          Just in case there is a little translation problem....:
          Ersatz meant Replacement...or basically the Replacement unit for that Regiment where reserves would be pooled and trained in the homeland prior to being shipped to the front!!!!
          Unterstellung was what the unit came under...not necessarily the Division if Army or Korps troops for example!!!

                  Hi Angus,

                  Ich have only abreviaion Schtz. for Schützen and Rgt. for Regiment, but Sch resp. R are also common.

                  A picture would be rather better than any description.
