I sent a request to Volksbind Deutsche Kriegsgr******228;berf******252;rsorge e.V. for information regarding a Luftwaffe Leutnant and today I received their response in the mail. They give you a list of information from first & last name, birth and death place etc. One of the lines in the list is as follows:

    Erkennungsmarke: -1578- Flg.H.Kdtr.L.Giessen

    What does this mean?

    I thank you in advance.

    Scott

Ps Please move this post if it is in the wrong section.

Thank you for the quick reply - does any one know what this unit could be. I know he is Luftwaffe and an officer. Fought on the Ground in Holland 1944 but was not a FJ.

      Thanks

I'm not a LW man but I think this unit is a command one related to aircrafts not to ground troops, but this was his first unit, maybe prewar and it's not rare he was transfered to a FJ unit or to a Luftwaffe Feld Division so he could have took part into ground battles.

Do you have any other info about this man? Maybe we can help you better with more details.

          Yes I do:

          Name: Oberleutnant Felix Kozlowski
          Died: Holland 1944 (21.9.44)
Place of Death: Oosterbeek (bei Arnheim)
Unit at time of death: Believe to be Herman Goring Training and Replacement Regiment

That's all I got. You could be right. in 1944 a lot of Luftwaffe personnel was transferred to the 'Ground force' due to lack of fuel for aircraft etc.

          Could be right............
