a rather nice book in my collection, fresh from the vets family and first time in a collectors possession (a virgin !)
Thought I would share some pics.
A member of 22nd Luftlande (airlanding) division. A second issue soldbuch issued July 1941 - I would guess due to the original being damaged or lost in the first few weeks of Barbarossa.
His service dates back to pre-1936.
Interestingly all the way through with the same 47th Infantry/grenadier regiment.
Prior he was most probably involved in the airlandings in Holland with 22nd Div as he received the EK in July 1940.
Then moved into Russia - AG South winning the IAB, Krim shield and wound badge. The unit experienced heavy fighting at Sevastopol.
The 22nd Luftlande was diverted to Crete in 1942. This man's regiment - the 47th was then airlifted to Tunisia.
Arrived in Tunisia 19 December 1942 (QUESTION - does anyone know from what date Afrika reinforcements were diverted to Tunisia rather than Libya due to the withdrawal ?).
He would have been part of Kampfgruppe Buhse, attachd to 21st Panzer for the duration of the Tunisian campaign until capture by the Allies in May 1943.THe unit was iInvolved in successful assaults on American spearheads moving into Tunisia. Obviously captured by the Allies as all entries cease abruptly at that time.
Lovely group of awards including Krim Shield, EK1 and 2.
Interestingly no Afrika cuff entered but obiously entitled.
Notice how two awards on his first award page have no accompanying stamps. Only signed.
Attained rank of Leutnant whilst in Tunisia. A nice long service officer, served through the lowlands campaign 1940 - Russia 1941/42, Crete 1942, Afrika 1943.
Nice Luftwaffe Tunis hospital stamp on page 20 and 12.
Not too sure on his illnesses. Can anyone read the type of illness/wounds he had ?
Overall a nice combat-vet, well decorated, infantry Leutnant with service on three fronts.
