HELP! RK KIA Wehrpass Translation Needed!

    Simon, et. al.,

I hope some of you Wehrpass specialists, that read fluent Deutsche, can help me with this. I have the RKT's Juncker Knight's Cross. I also have copies of all his awards, and his Wehrpass. Can anyone please translate some of the text, and entries for me? I know there is lots to cover, but I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

    Thanks, again!
    Mark

Mark, what part do you need translating? I can translate it all realtively easily but it'd be the typing that would take some time.

Incidentally, if you have copies of his other awards how do you know the RK is actually his?

      Hi Gary,

I'm not sure if I was clear in my initial post, what I meant was I have photocopies of all his paper awards. The group was split when it was sold.

The awards docs went to one collector, the RK to me. I wish I'd had the money for it all. Now, I wish I could bring it all back together.

As Gary said translating everything word for word would be a little time consuming.

If you're completely blank on wehrpasses i would recommend you read through this excellent guide by Gary first.

          Simon,

I'm sure it would be time consuming. I think I even eluded to that in my initial post. I guess I will look for a translation service and pay them. I was hoping that anyone here at all might see something of interest in the Wehrpass. But only a Heer Major RKT, I guess not.

              Hi Stefan,

I can most certainly do that, thanks for the suggest! And just a thought, if I can work out a 'deal' for translation services, I would even try to purchase a replica Wehrpass, and have the translated data entered into the fake Werhpass. That way, I would have a page for page (roughly) translation, from German to English.

It is interesting but you've not said what parts you want translating. Apart from all of of it. There are plenty of sources to help you translate and understand it - the text is pretty clear by 1940's German standards. Translating it is only the start...researching it is even a bigger undertaking.

Try doing parts yourself yourself...time consuming yes, but greatly rewarding. It is then easier to come and ask specific questions about specific entries. But if you can't be bothered to try....why should anyone else?

Gary's site which i gave the link for will tell you what the various sections mean, so you don't need those parts explaining right?

I would assume you know what things like handgranate, gewehr 98, pistole 08 mean as well as the ranks such as gefreiter, unteroffizier, oberfeldwebel, leutnant?
As a medal guy you'll of course recognise his various awards.

do you need the unit abbreviations deciphering?

Other's are much better than me at the sutterlin (hate the stuff).

a general translation service won't get you very far unless they're versed in military terminology and abbreviations.

As for interesting, he's an RKT, not exactly common. More than that depends very much indeed on what you find interesting.

                        GaryT,

I guess I'm used to the atmosphere in the 'Badge' section. If someone asks for help and is not knowlegable, we try to help him out.

I have just spent an hour or so scanning the material. I am looking at the entries. I AM slowly wading into it. I AM picking up some key words in German, but I HAVE NEVER STUDIED A WEHRPASS. I am new to this area of collecting and am trying to get a helping hand.

amost sounds a little hostile? What have I done to warrant your attitude? I've been here at the Forum since the beginning, collecting badges for 30 years, and never got a reply like yours.

Wow! What a slap in the face.

                        Best Regards,

There's a slight difference between asking an opinion on a badge (which takes what - minutes\seconds) and asking people to spend literally hours typing out the text and then the translation.

I asked twice exactly which parts you wanted translating and you chose to ignore me and whine why people weren't replying or helping. There are a number of people here who would have no trouble reading this WP. Have you wondered why they haven't replied? No-one is going to spend 5+ hours typing it all out...especially when the requestor appears not to be helping themselves.

Some document collectors quite frankly have learnt the hard way...you usually spend hours helping someone only a) for them never to say thank you...a national trait for some as mentioned here a number of times...or to b) find the person you helped just wanted some information on the item to help them sell it.

As Simon remarked some of the entries I guess are understandable if you can read English - but which one's aren't? I can supply you with all sorts of information not contained in this WP - down to maps showing where this unit was on the day this Major died. But to be reasonable you need to narrow down what you want.

                            GaryT,

As I said in a prior post, "I'm sure it would be time consuming. I guess I will look for a translation service and pay them." I'm not asking for 5+ hours of free time, I thought I was clear that I was willing to pay. I even stated that I new it would be labor intensive. You don't need to talk down to me. If people have abused this priveledge in the past, I don't think you need to blame me. This is the first time in this Forum, I have asked for for assistance. And based on your attitude, it will be the last.

And sorry you are dead wrong about badges. Take a look at some of the threads about S&L RKs, and Rounders, and JFS 100 PABs.

But that's all irrelevant, a KIND member has already offered me assistance. I guess he's willing to work with me.

                            Don't worry, I won't waste your time.

                            The big whiner,

Your intial post did not mention any payment...only when the silence was deafening did you mention this. If you've got more money than sense then go ahead and pay. Indeed if you were prepared to pay why did you turn up here hoping you'd get it done for free?

And I'm not dead wrong about badges...are you telling me people spend hours examining and typing up their opinion of one badge in one post? BS. You're not asking for knowledge...you're asking for work to be done on your behalf. This stuff is written...anyone who can read and type into Google's translator could make a decent attempt at some of the entries. You've obviously got no intention of trying yourself.

Turning up here and more or less saying 'translate this' is sort of like going on a World War Two forum and asking people for everything they know about World War II. They could all answer but they won't because the poster couldn't even be bothered to be specific. As I said previously - why should they put any effort in when you're not?
