            Kleine Kraftwagen-kollone 1/256.....

            He served with Ortskommandantur 257 which had it's replacement unit Landesschützen Ersatz Bataillon 7 stationed in Berchtesgaden....1941 it moved to Freising.

            Yes it is the same place as the "Eagle's nest", however as it is in section D i.e. a replacement unit, there is no guarantee he actually ever went there! Section D was for replacement units for his front line unit and he would go here for convalescence, kit changes whilst on leave etc. It does not however mean he served with this unit! Common mistake with many people, especially dealers!!!!

            Incidentally Ortskommandantur 257 was formed 19.7.1941 in München, Wehrkreis VII; It was used in action in Heeresgebiet Nord (Sicherungs-Division 207), 1942 Wehrmachtbefehlshaber Ostland, 16. Armee, lastly 1945 1. Panzerarmee (Slovkia).

              Also Kleine Kraftwagen-kollone 1/256 was part of Divisions-Nachschubführer 256 which was formed 26.8.1939 (4th wave Division) in Wehrkreis IV; 15.10.1942 renamed Kommandeur der Divisions-Nachschubtruppen 256; 21.7.1944 Disbanded;
              Re-formed as Versorgungs-Regiment 256 on 17.9.1944 from Versorgungs-Regiment 1568 of the 568. Volks-Grenadier-Division.
              Under: 256. Infanterie-Division; 256. Volks-Grenadier-Division

              Replacements: 24 (Kraftfahr) Leipzig, Wehrkreis IV

              As you can see in section D....Kf.Ers.Abt. 24 in Leipzig was also one of his replacement units with marries up with the above unit.

                    Incidentally his driving license was issued by the Panzerjäger Abteilung of 256 Inf.Div......and signed by the Abteilung Kommandeur.

                    Class 2 is for lorries/trucks.

                          7.3.1935 was the date for the award of the Hindenburg Cross (Ehrenkreuz für Frontkampfer). 17.11.1943 was the date the award was made in his Soldbuch.
