    ID disc L.A.H.

    Hello,
    A friend of mine gave me a ID disc that he found while searching near the freeway between Zossen and Berlin. It is stamped: 166 A at the top, and S.S. V.T. L.A.H.
    It was found together with a few helmets tugged away in the liner of a helmet together with a SS capeagle and a inf. stu.abz.

    I know now that ths means that the bearer was an SS Leibstandarten Adolf Hitler soldier, but know I would like to know what V.T. means and if I can trace this one to a name.

    Can anyone help me?

    VT = Verfügungstruppe.

    The Waffen SS was known as the "SS-VT" proir to 1940

    See here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Verf%C3%BCgungstruppen

    The tag sounds really interesting and with a very low number. I would love to see it? Do you have any pics?

    Tracing a name might not be possible

    Cheers, Ade.

        Hi Gunner,

        You can't trace names from Erkennungsmarken it seems- I've heard that the response from the only German government agency that has the information is that they have too much work clearing up MIA cases to do research simply for interested parties. This does seem a little odd considering they will provide service record details if supplied with a name and birthdate... so maybe there's not an efficient cross-reference for just the Erkennungsmarke information.

        I'd be curious to see the disc too- I've recently acquired 3 LAH discs myself, so I'm interested to see if yours is similar. If you can, please email them to panzerknacker AT shaw.ca

        Thanks!

        Matt
