    what does this say ?

    Hello, I would appreciate any help in understanding the general meaning of this passage.
    It should have something to do with pay. What is the relevance of the date and location mentioned ?

    To me, the way this word is written looks a little funny.
    Was it common for the letter "z" to be written in this fashion rather than as a sutterlin script "z" ?

      Yes, I've seen this style often enough to think it was common. The example you show is very clearly a "z"; sometimes the "z" in this style of fornt is written the same size as an "s" and can be easily mistaken.

        It is something to do with him getting Kriegsbesoldung according to a certain directive, i.e. war pay from the date that is stated there....but difficult to make out the full meaning of the entry since there appear to be bits cut off on the left and right from the pic...Cheers, Torsten.

          Yes he was entitled to war pay from 1.11.1942 and the pay office he was entitled to it from was Böblingen.....If I remember correctly this would be the place where he joined up!
          War pay (Kriegsbesoldung) if you were conscripted during the pay and peacetime pay (Friedensgebührnisse) if you were conscripted pre August 1939.

          The rest is the order entitling him to war pay according EWGG (Einsatz Wehrmacht Gebührnissgesetz).
