    Q about wehrpass SS Kraftfahrer

I have a question about the unit this SS Kraftfahrer belongs to.
I think it reads Fronthilfer DRP SS Kraftfahrabt? (waffen-ss)

Never heard of a unit or branch called DRP.
Does anybody have any ideas or comments.

    Thanks in advance

    Peter

"DRP" has me stumped as well. There is reference to a "Fronthilfe DRP Kraftstaffel" at http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=37957&highlight=drp .

John Moore's Fuhrerliste der Waffen-SS includes the following officers who were assigned to units including the abbreviation "DRP":

              Bauer, Otto
              SS-Ustuf.

              Born: 19.01.1898.
              Killed in Action: 29.02.1944.

              SS-Ustuf. with 7./SS-Kraftfahrstaffel DRP as of 02.1944.

              Beyrich, Oskar
              SS-Ostuf.

              Born: 07.03.1890 in Kahnsdorf.

              Fechner, Lothar
              SS-Ustuf.

Born: 30.09.1909 in Znin / Provinz Posen.

              SS-Nr.: 248 526

Assigned as SS-Ustuf. to the SS-Hauptamt as of 11.1943
Assigned as SS-Ustuf. to Fronthilfe-DRP as of 08.1944<o></o>

              Lang, Otto Dr
              SS-Hstuf.

Born: 16.03.1907 in Wolfersdorf / Sudetenland.
Killed in Action: 14.08.1944 in Conde.

              SS-Hstuf. with IV./Fronthilfe DRP as of 07.1944.

              Schmidt, Rudolf Dr
              SS-Ostuf.

              Born: 05.12.1904 in Bern, Switzerland.

              SS-Nr.: 146 183

Assigned as SS-Ustuf. to the SS-Hauptamt as of 05.1942.
Assigned as SS-Ostuf. to I./DRP Kraftfahrstaffel Ost as of 09.1944.

              Sonntag, Rudolf

              Würdig, Walter
              SS-Ostuf.

              Killed in Action: 27.10.1944.

              SS-Nr.: 160 008

Assigned as SS-Ustuf. to 20./Fronthilfe DRP as of 10.44.
              Assigned as SS-Hscha. to I.Bataillon / SS-Regiment "Germania" as of 09.1939

Can't make out the signature of the SS-Ustuf. on the Wehrpass, but perhaps it's this fellow (also listed in Moore's CD-Rom, but doesn't specify he was involved with "DRP" units:

              Stalla, Robert
              SS-Ustuf.

              Born: 25.10.1900 in Poritsch.

Assigned as SS-Ustuf. to the SS-Haupamt as of 01.1945.

Hope the above is of use to you.

              Best wishes,
              ~ Mike

                DRP - Deutsche Reichspost

DRP = Deutsche Reichspost! Perhaps some kind of mobile mail service designed to help troops at the FRONT by providing them with mail. And now that I think about it, the fact that most of the officers I've listed are shown as affiliated with the SS-Hauptamt makes sense, as the Chef of that Hauptamt, Gottlob Berger, was the SS liaison to Dr. Wilhelm Ohnesorge's Reichspostministerium. His postal assignments were as follows:

01.01.1942 – 08.05.1945 “persönlicher Vertreter des RFSS im Reichspostministerium” (Personal Representative of the Reichsführer-SS to the Reich Postal Ministry).<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>

01.01.1942 – 01.01.1945 Member of the Beirat (Advisory Council) of the Deutschen Reichspost.<o></o>

01.01.1942 – 31.12.1944 Chef of the “Postüberwachungsstelle” (Postal Control Office) of the Deutschen Reichspost.<o></o>

                  12.03.1942 – 30.04.1942 Leiter (m.d.F.b.) of the SS-Postschutzes (SS Postal Protection service).<o></o>

And checking my copy of Die Generale der Waffen-SS und Polizei, Band I (biography of Gottlob Berger, p. 91), by Andreas Schulz, Günter Wegmann, and Dr. Dieter Zinke, Biblio-Verlag, 2003), I've just found the following:

                  <o></o>
