Stalingrad Dog Tag

Hello Fellows,

I was told this was a ground dug from the former site of the battle of Stalingrad. Is the tag legit and any background information on this unit?? Thank you!

I think its impossible to tell.
Most soldiers got their dogtag, when they went into military service.
They changed very often from unit(just look in each Sudbuch) . They kept almost always their original dogtag .

Just like yours, this was the dogtag of ther first/ "training" or Ersatz unit.

An example from my collection: I got a dogtag and Soldbuch of 1 person.
His dogtag is: 1. I.E.Btl.4

He changed about 8 times of unit, and his final unit was 4.Fusil.Batl. 226.
