Soldbuch 12. SS Panzer Divisioin "Hitlerjugend"

    Hi all,

i just got this Soldbuch a few days ago. Iam not a Soldbuch collector at all and so i think it would be a good idea to check it up here on the Forum.
Any opinions on the book are welcome.
I personaly think its a good one, but i haven´t handled many of them.
I would be also interested in an approximate Value since it can be that i sell the book some time.
If anybody knows any detail about the exat unit the guy served in, that would be more than nice.

He (Willi Plotzitzka) was recruted very late in the war (20.10.44) with the age of 17.
After research at the Volksbund site i know that he died some 80 days later on 8.1.45. He is buried at the cemetary of Andilly (France).

The date from 20.10.44 - 8.1.45 would fit well with the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes. It is my believing that he fought and died there.

He served with the "Divisions Begleit Kompanie" of 12. SS Hitlerjugend.
If anybody could tell me if this unit was involved in the Bulge that would be nice. I know that the Divisions Begleit Kompanie was attached to Kampfgruppe Waldmüller in the Normandy battle.

There are no big entrys in the book at all, but i can read that he carried a M.Pi. 44 and a Nahkampfmesser (Close Comabt Knife).

Again, any info about that unit in this time frame would be highly appricated.
A value would be nice as well.

    Thanks Jens

                      Hi,

Sorry to say, but I think it is a fake one.
The photo looks to be newly stapled and the stamps are at least strange. There are no inverted commas in upper index in German writing. While they appear so on stamps in your book. There should be „Hitlerjugend” instead of "Hitlerjugend" - not to say that on your stamps the latter comas are missing. I have impression that some other things are wrong here, but I leave these to document experts on this forum.
One more thing I can add is that I never saw a dog tag (And I saw few of them) stamped in a way mentioned in your document. All HJ tags I have seen were Pz.Gren.Ers.u.Ausb.Btl.12 type. And as most of them have very high roll numbers I guess that they were the only ones used by the division. ( However I might be wrong- therefore if any colleagues on this forum have exaples of authentic divisional HJ tags - please share some images).
                      Hope this helps
                      Al

This book looks good to me. Correct Feldpost Nr. on the stamps (59900 A). The signature on page 2 is "Stier" -- he was commanding this unit according to the divisional history by Meyer.

The divisional history has a description of this unit's activities on January 8, 1945. The Begleitkompanie was attacking near Bastogne and suffered heavy casualties. If I have time later, I will post more info.

I think this book is worth at least $500. Interesting unit, Bastogne connection and uncommon weapon entries.

                            Hi Al,

Iam realy no expert on Soldbuchs, but to me all in this book looks perfect, except from the missing " on Hitlerjugend. I thought that it looks a bit strange myself when i saw it first time. But i think all is matching in that book, dates, stamps, units and so on. If you would hold it in hands i think you would agree with me.

                            FCG,

many thanks for your detailed inforamtions, its is highly appricated. It would be nice if you can share any additional information.
Also thanks for a Value, i havent handled many of them. I realy love the terms you mentioned (Bastogne, STGW 44)

                            Alex,

Also many thanks for your opinion and the thumbs up.

Thanks to all of you, Jens
