    S in Brackets?

    Hi Guys ,
Does anyone know what S in brackets at the end of a rank means.
In this case its a Kriegsmarine rank ,
    Maschinenmatt(S).
    Excuse my spelling

    Thanks K

Can it be Maschinenmaat (S) = that the S stands for See.?

      Hi Eric,

      Thanks.

I have looked a bit more into it and i get the feeling a letter in brackets denotes some sort of trade catagory.
      (T) for example denotes "torpedo".
I could be wrong but in the case of maschinenmatt(S),the S could denote "steurmann".Which would mean in this case, maschinenmatt(s) would most probaly denote an engineer whos invloved with navigation equipment.

        Hi,

According to Führungsbücher S stands for:
        Seemännisches Personal. (Seamen).
