This time we have a replacement one, but full of info and with the add of all citations and the CC day list of this young officer.
Our guy, Rudolf Muntschler, was born on May 16th, 1.920 in Memmingen and he was catholic and was studying at the time of his induction.
We can not know his original Soldbuch number, but looks like he maintained his Dog Tag number 675 given by 4 (s) Ers.Battr. 268 and his new Soldbuch is the number 189 open by 14. (PzJg.) Komp./Gren.Rgt. 423 open on July 15th, 1.943.
Using his pay grades we can see his career:
- Schutze (Kanonier) on October 1st, 1.940
- Gefreiter on December 1st, 1.941
- Unteroffizier on December 1st, 1.942
- Wachtmeister on March 1st, 1.943
- Leutnant on April 1st, 1.943
- Oberleutnant on May 1st, 1.944 confirmed on the same date by G.R. 423
From this dates I can say with a high decree of accuracy that he took part in the 12 O.A. Lehrgang that lasted from February 2nd to April 2nd 1.943.
In his Soldbuch we can see something rare, on the inside cover we found not his photo, but a paper glued stating that he was entitled to his own pistol, a 7,65 mm Walther s/n 368808k on April 1st, 1.944 while still a Feldwebel, stamper by Schule VII Officer Antwarter der Infanterie 6. (schw) Inspektion. But there is another cover and in this we find a photo from our man with Leutnant rank, his peaked cap and the Ostmedaille ribbon, stamped by III./Inf.Rgt. 423.
He served with 14. (PzJg.) Komp./Gren.Rgt. 423 with KrStR Nr 5 and with Stab III./G.R. 423 with KrStR Nr 3/Rgt
Interesting he received some equipment on July 15th, 1.943 and he signed himself the entry
On March 20th, 1.944 he received a more powerful gun, a P38 s/n 8174. Also received 22nd a wristwatch Recta D583890H plus a compass with no s/n and a pair of 6x30 binoculars KF s/n 477167 (the later returned or lost) and on May 24th a pair of binoculars KF s/n 487458 (he had previously one Spindler s/n 89342 and a compass RF s/n 16724 received both on November 14th, 1.943 and returned or lost)
Thanks to his citations we know he was wounded three times:
- January 14th, 1.944
- July 27th, 1.944
- December 24th, 1.944 (a nasty Christmas present)
Only for the last we know he was evacuated to the rear as he spent some time at the hospital:
Reservelazarett Memmingen, Teillazarett Eisbathenschule arriving on December 30th, 1.944 for shrapnel wounds till January 24th, 1.945 when he was released (entlassen)
More info from his Soldbuch are his three leaves, all to visit Memmingen:
- On April 21st, 1.943 as Sonderurlaub from April 22nd till May 2nd, Fp stamp erased
- On June 10th, 1.943 as Einsatzurlaub from June 10th till 27th, Fp stamp erased
- On March 25th, 1.944 as Erholungsurlaub from March 26th till April 20th this is granted by III./G.R. 423
Also we have his three security checks_
- First on July 15th, 1.943 by Inf. Rgt, 423 (on stamp, its correct denomination is Grenadier Regiment 423) KrStR Nr. 3
- Second on December 1st, 1.943 by Waffenschule der Heeresgruppe Nord. KrStR Nr 3
- Third one on September 6th, 1.944 by III/Gren.Rgt. 423. KrStR Nr 3
His medals are notated on his Soldbuch as follows:
- Ostmedaille on July 11th, 1.942 with a stamp with Fp erased but notated by Fp 0?483
- EK II on August 24th, 1.943 by 212 I.D. on the same date
- Wound badge in Black on January 14th, 1.944 by G.R. 320 on February 5th, 1.944
- EK I on February 12th, 1.944 by 212 I.D. on the same date
- IABiS on March 3rd, 1.944 by G.R. 320 on the same date
- CCCiB on October 8th, 1.944 by G.R. 423 on the same date
- Wound Badge in silver on February 3rd, 1.945 by G.R. 423 on the same date.
What happen with him after release from hospital is a mystery, but he registered himself with Military Government in Memmingen on April 30th, 1.945. The 212 V.G.D. surrender in the south of Munich at the end of April beginning of May 45 and the area where this happen (Forstenrieder Park and Miesbach) are around 100-150 km east of Memmingen.
