    Question on Ostmedaille in soldbuch

    hi Sirs,

could you please check for me why the soldbuch is released in May 1942, but in his awards, he was awarded Ostmedaille, he must be in battle/front from 1941-1942?
the early date in his licence is March 1942. hope you can reveal something for me, thank you !

I have similar soldbuchs which must be replacements as the soldiers clearly saw service before the document was issued. However they are not always identified as ‘zweitschrift’, or ‘ersatz’.

With such little show is difficult to say you something, we need to see the weapons and equipment page (can give dates and units), leave and payments page so we can have a more clear timeline.

Being enlisted in May 41 he can be sent to the front after around 4 months of training so October as earlier well inside the timeframe for the Ostmedaille.

Also he could be wounded so also qualified for the medal.

Looking for DKiG Heer winner Soldbuch who also won the TDB and/or CCC, specially in Silver.

Could you show page 1 and 18 ? those might give us clues.
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

The document was issued in May 1942, so assuming that date was not an error this must be a replacement soldbuch. However further photos would be useful - particularly the top of page 1.

          Regards,
          Michael

            Hello !

I agree with the colleagues : More info would help.
            Obviously, there are different approaches.
I would also look at pages 3 and 18, just as Rick sugggested, to look whether it is a Zweitschrift (or not).

In case it is not : Isn't it possible that he served with RAD during winter 1941/42 (or maybe another branch like NSKK),
had some task at the Eastern front, and was therefore awarded the Ostmedaille ?
I am unsure, whether those men could receive the Medal as well ?

            Best regards,

            Archi

I have one like this. I believe it is an early replacement Soldbuch. It appears many of these were issued in the spring before the summer of 1942 campaign season.
