TDB Soldbuch - Heer Panzer Grenadier

    Good day gents,

Just wanted to share my first Soldbuch with an entry for the Panzervernichtungsabzeichen in it.

The book belonged to Unteroffizier (and officer candidate) Günter L Ŭ M M A. Uffz Lŭmma was born on 10 August 1925 in Altöls, Niederschlesien.

He was mobilized with 3./Grenadier Ersatz u. Ausbildung Btl. 6 on 22 July 1943. He was awarded the EKII while assigned to 3./Gren Rgt 6 (30 Inf Div) on 9 Sep 44 for action during the Baltic withdrawal. In October 1944, Grenadier Regiment 6 was dissolved due to heavy losses and Uffz Lŭmma was transferred to 5./Pz. Gren. Rgt 112 (20 Pz Div). Uffz Lŭmma would earn the Tank Destruction Badge on 24 March 1945 for action against a Russian tank during the siege fighting at Breslau.

It appears he suffered shrapnel wounds on four separate occasions (31b) on pg. 12/13 (although it's strange I see no entry for a Wound Badge), and was issued a StG 44 on 1 March 1945.

There is no record of his death on Volksbund.de, nor in the cards on file with the WASt so I assume he survived the war.

Thanks for looking and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Very nice piece you have looks like he never enjoyed his last leave granted for destroying the Russian tank.

Mine enjoyed the leave just to be killed a mere days before the end.

Looking for DKiG Heer winner Soldbuch who also won the TDB and/or CCC, specially in Silver.

It is the same type of entry that in my Soldbuch, lucky for your guy looks like he survived the war, mine not.

Very nice piece you have and I am with you, it lacks the entry for the Wound Badge in black, surely something overshadow by the situation.

Keep posting pieces like this, always a pleasure to see outstanding ones like this.

            Hello !

Many thanks for sharing this interesting Soldbuch with such a very special and rare entry !

I agree, that he certainly should have received a VWA, especially as his second wounding seems to have been very severe.
After the first wounding on 15.8.44, he was released on 18.8.44 as : dfg. z. Tr. (dienstfähig zur Truppe).

I think that the next four entries on p. 12-13 all are related to the same wounding, with transfers from one hospital to another.
(In total in hospital from 19.9.44 - 27.1.45).

Regarding possible actions in 1945, for which he could have been awarded the TDB :
Please see the attached map from the divisional history of 20. Pz.Div. for its actions South of Breslau.
This division was shifted around a lot in February/March 1945. (It was also split up up into different battlegroups at times.)
The Pz.Gren.Rgt. 112 is not mentioned individually during that timeframe.
If the award entry was made very soon after the action, for which it was granted, it might be related to
the heavy fighting for the city of Neisse around that timeframe.

            Best regards,

            Archi

Thanks much Archi - that's great information!

I tried doing some research on that time period with the 20th Panzer and saw Niesse mentioned, but couldn't really find any info on the activity there.

Your maps help and I think I am closer now to his real story on that day.

              Thanks again and best regards!
