Pieces from numbered Assault Badges, I put mine, you put yours

I will start with nice small group from an Artillerie Hauptmann with Allgemeins Sturmabzeichen IV Stufe (75)

Here we have the story of a brave man who served his country during WW 2 and later with the Bundeswehr.

Hans Joachim Hermann Kochen was born on June 30th, 1.919 in Berlin, his father Christian and his mother Elisabeth.

Our young lad was a good student and he passed his Abitur and has knowledge in english and French languages and his love for sport is more than clear as he was a holder of:
    - Reichjugendabzeichen 89223
    - Freischwimmer
    - Reichsportabzeichen
    - Grundschein der D.L.rRG.

Her family home was in Berlin-Steglich in the Albertstrasse 76 (southeast of Berlin).

He had clear what he want to do so he presented himself volunteer for the Wehrmacht on January 22nd, 1.937 and was declared fit for service on February 10th, 1.937 and accepted by II./Artillerie Regiment 13 in Magdeburg on February 23rd, 1.937.

Unfortunately for him first he need to wore the brown uniform of the R.A.D. and learn how to use the spade before the rifle and he served from April 3rd, 1.937 till October 23rd, 1.937.

Now things go on track again and he entered the military on November 5th, 1.937 being declared the same day fit for service and sworn on the 18th being given seniority since October 1st, 1.937 all by 5./A.R. 13 Magdeburg.

He was trained with the Kar98k, the P08 and, being an artilleryman, with l.F.H.18.

His period with A.R. 13 was divided in:
    - from November 5th, 1.937 till November 5th, 1.939 with the 5 Batterie
    - From November 6th, 1.939 till December 7th, 1.939 with 2 Ers. Batterie./I Art.Ers.Abt. 13 Magdeburg.
He acted as Geschützeführer with 5./A.R. (mot) 13 from August 28th till September 22nd, 1.939
    From September 23rd till December 6th, 1.939 as Zugführer with le.Art.Ers.Abt.(mot) 13

While with this unit he was promoter to:
    - Gefreiter u R.O.A. on October 1st, 1.938
    - Unteroffizier on June 1st, 1.939
    - Wachtmeister on December 1st, 1.939

    And was awarded:
    - Schutzenschnur
    - Sudeten Erinnerungs Medaille

Now he was transfer to a new unit, Stellungs Artillerie Abteilung 807, this unit was formed in Wehrkreis XI as a three batterie unit equipped with Flak 8.8 cm. guns. On May 10th, 1.940 it was attached to XXXIII Korps, 7 Armee, Army Gruppe C and was equipped with 8,35 (t) Flak guns. The unit was disbanded on August 31st, 1.940.

His time with the 807 was divided as follow:
    - Stab from December 8th, 1.939 till April 30th, 1.940
    - 3 Batterie from May 1st, 1.940 till August 30th, 1.940
Served as Schreiber for the Ia and AVO with Stell.Art.Abt. 807 from December 7th, 1.939 till August 22nd, 1.940

His time serving with this short living unit was full of things for our Joachim:
    - Promoted to Leutnant on July 1st, 1.940 on July 24th with seniority since the same 1st
    - Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class on July 2nd, 1.940.

But now our poor guy was lost, his unit disbanded and no news from him and this was his situation till his new appointment. He was with Führerreserve Stellv.Gen.Kdo. III A.K. from August 23rd till September 14th, 1.940

On September 11th, 1.940 he received his new post, III./A.R. 75 where he will be till October 11th, 1.942. During this service time he saw combat for sure and behave properly as his chest received new decorations:

    - Awarded the Iron Cross 1st class on September 28th, 1.941
    - He was wounded, but not a single clue of when, where and what hurt him, just the award of the Wound Badge in Black on November 29th, 1.941.
    - Awarded the Sturmabzeichen on December 1st, 1.941
    - Promoted to Oberleutnant d.R. on July 1st, 1.942, done in June 30th.
    - Awarded the Ostmedaille on July 27th, 1.942
Served from September 15th, 1.940 till October 14th, 1.942 as V.B (Forward Observer), Abteilung Adjutant and Temporary Batterie leader (Führer)
Unfortunately for him and his unit he was diagnosed with hay fever and sent to the rear to recover.

This illness took him away from the frontline more than a year and this time he was posted under Schw.Art.Ers..-u.Ausb.Abt.(mot) 59.
    - From October 12th, 1.942 till March 22nd, 1.943 in its Lazarett
    - From March 23rd till October 2nd with proper unit

Now it was time to go back to the thick of the action and he was transfer back to his old unit:
    - From November 1st, 1.943 till the end with II./Panzer Artillerie Regiment 75
    - Declared as aktiv Offizier on February 1st, 1.944
    - Promoted to Hauptmann on July 1st 1.944, order dated August 23rd.
    - Awarded Sturmabzeichen III Stufe on November 27th, 1.944, entry signed by Major Friedrich Gaebler, DKiG as Hauptmann on October 25th, 1.942 as Chef 4./Pz.Art.Rgt. 75, EB on October 25th, 1.944 as Hauptmann as commander II./Pz.Art.Rgt. 75 for combats in Lisow on August 23rd, 1.944.
    - Awarded the Wound Badge in Silver, but again not a clue of where, when and what wounds deserved this medal, on April 18th, 1.945.
    - Awarded the Sturmabzeichen IV Stufe (75) on May 4th, 1.945.
    - Discharged from the Wehrmacht. on May 8th, 1.945 by Oberstleutnant und Regiments Kommandeur.
Served from November 6th 1.943 till January 31st, 1.944 as temporary Batterie leader (Führer) with 6./Pz.Art.Rgt. 75
From February 1st, 1.944 till the end as Batterie Chef of 6./Pz.Art.Rgt. 75 and provisional Abteilung leader (Führer)
    6./Panzer Artillerie Regiment 75 was equipped with 10,5 cm. l.F.H. 18 towed by Sd.Kfz. 6/1.

In 1.941 he took part in the all six of the major battles of encirclement in 1941 - Bialystok, Minsk, Smolensk, Kiev, Bryansk, and Vyazma.

He was almost a year away from combat, if he serve all this time in the frontline maybe we will be talking about a DKiG and Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen IV Stufe (100) holder.

Looks like the day his Abteilung commander was awarded the Ehrenblattspange he was credited with an assault day in the same place.

Clearly he has not enough for military life and he enrolled again into the Bundeswehr as the photo from him in this uniform wearing a ribbon bar with his wartime medals proof.

During his time in the Heer he received the Driving Licenses I, II and III Klasse plus one for vehicles over 10 tons.

He was appointed as Nachrichten Offizier, V.B. (Forward Observer), Abteilung Adjutant, Temporary Batterie leader (Führer) and full Batterie leader (Chef)
