    Soldbuch Question: Changing service details

    I have a question that I have been trying to find an answer for some time now. If a member of the German forces changed services, did he retain his original Soldbuch, or was it changed to the new service? By this I mean a Heer paratrooper changing to the Luftwaffe, or Heer to Waffen-SS. If you were loaned to a unit for a length of time was this entered into your Soldbuch?

    Regards;
    Johnsy

    Johnsy,
    I use to have a couple from men who changed service in the later part of the war and both kept their original soldbuchs, but entries to reflect thechanges. I will see if I still have one and if so I will scan it.
    Regards

        Anyone else?

        Surely a few collectors must have an answer or opinion?

          I have one Soldbuch that shows the man was TDY to another unit for 60 days. There are military regulations that say in order to save material, Soldbücher of branch transfers will use their existing Soldbuch. Kriegsmarine transfers were the most complicated for Soldbuch entries, as the pages do not generally match the other branches.

            Excues my ignorance Jeff, but what is TDY? Temporary something?

              It means temporary duty. Usually you are attached to another command for a few days.

                TDY is the US military term. Wasn't the German term z.b.v -- Zur besonderen Verwendung? I have a wehrbuch showing a gebirgssanitaet trooper from GJR 98 zbv to GJR 138.

                Thanks,
                Guy
