    afrika soldbuch

Hello, I have a new TUNISIA soldbuch to a panzer jager with 15th Panzer division. It was souvenired by a US soldier. Luckily it still has the unit pages.
There is no "Arrived in afrika" stamp, so I am trying to establish with certainty that he was in Afrika.
The full book can be seen here:
    http://www.japanese-swords.com/temp/wehrpass.htm
His unit states that he was with MARSCH BATALLION 63 Afrika, and his special tropical issue sheet is issued by that unit also, so it certainly looks like he made it to afrika, however I cannot read with with certainty his next unit after the Marsch batallion afrika. Does anyone have any info on Marsch Battalion Afrika 63, eg when they arrived in afrika ?

I have a few questions please.

    1. At the bottom of page 20 it reads "inhaber hat eine kontrollkarte M". It is dated 30.6.43. This is strange because the Tunisia capitulation was approx. 6 weeks earlier. What does this stamp mean and was it done in a POW camp ?

    2. I cannot make out his last full unit title . It is the handwritten one in the middle (Section C, B. Can someone tell me what all of that line reads ?

3.In this book, there is no "Arrived in Afrika" stamp. I guess this was just due to lack of efficient administration. On page 15 there is a stamp and signature from his last ersatz unit "Infanterie Panzer Jager Ausbildung Komp.29) It is dated 15 Feb 1943. I suspect this is about the time that he departed for Afrika. What exactly is this stamp signifying ? Is it like a "sign-off" from that unit ? Also on the same date on his pay scale page, there is another stamp from Grenadier Ersatz Batllion 71. This unit is not listed on his unit page. What is the link here ?

    4. On page 12 "hospital entries", there is this stamp dated 27 April 1943. It is from a "communicable diseases centre". Do you think without a doubt this would be located in Tunisia ? Is it just a check-up or would he have been admitted by this centre ?

    5. At the bottom of page 10 there is this stam dated 24.3.43. It appears to be a special tropical examination ?. Would this have been done in Afrika and was it just a regular check-up ?

Thank you kindly for any assistance. It is much appreciated.

    Hi Fran1942!

Just a quick reply as I am out of the door for the next week, however I don't think your guy made it to Africa/Tunisia.
He was transferred to the Marschbataillon destined for Afrika, however ended up in Pz.Jäg.Kp. of Pz.Gren.Rgt.Fullriede.

    Panzer Grenadier Regiment Sizilien 3.
Formed with I.-III. Btl., initially Regiment Fullriede (Marsch Bataillon 63, 65, 67) Panzer Grenadier Bataillon Reggio (Marsch Bataillon 69). Renamed 1.7.1943 to Panzer Grenadier Regiment 129.

Under. 15 Panzer Grenadier Division, formed 14.5.1943 as Division Sizilien. In Sicily and lower Italy.

Regarding the Tobacco card/Kontrollkarte M, the date could well be when it is valid until rather than when it was issued.

Page 15 is a security check on his Soldbuch to ensure it is in order. Authorised by his current unit, K.St.Nr. is his Kriegsstammrollennummer and corresponds with the entry page 4, Section B (Ersatzheer), B...it should actually read Truppenstammrollennummer!

Page 10 is a special tropical medical examination and shows that he is Tropendienstfähig or fit for tropical service.

There will not be too many entries in the Soldbuch as he died 22.7.1943. Fighting in Sicily?!??

    Regards,
    Ian
