              Some specifics

              44.03mm x 44.43mm
diameter of stud on screw plate is 3.43mm
diameter of screw plate is 28.36mm
diameter of female post on back of cross is; 5.07mm
              wt. of cross; 15.2
              wt. of back plate; 3.8gm

In addition this piece is vaulted. I suspect this was done after the fact (?) as the inside corners have lifted slightly from the iron core.

                Screw back iron cross

                Hello,

Thanks for sharing these nice serie of pictures with us => as far as I can see I would have no problem with your cross , it is nicely aged ( somehow a pitty that the core is so quite corroded ! ) , I like the L/12 logo => when comparing towards otehr known originals of this manufacturer the letters of this maker mark seem correct, etc ...

Im sure Gordon or other iron corss specialists can help you more

                Cordial Greetings,

                  Hi Steve

Your EK looks original to me, the mark is correct, the disc is correct and does not show the ridge found on many fakes, the core is characteristic of a Juncker piece. It is sad that the core has suffered such damage.

                  Regards

                  Dez

                    Hi Steve,

Any fake will have a pretty hard time trying to look like that!

                    Cheers, Frank H.

                          Thanks for all the comments

Thanks to everybody for their opinion on this cross. The condition may leave something to be desired, but for a vaulted, Juncker screwback, the price was too good to pass up.

I'm not sure if this piece would "cleanup" at all. If I could indulge a few of you to comment on what I might use, it would again be appreciated.

                          Steve

                            Dear Steve,

Just use some WD-40 or any no-acid conservation oil gently with a Q-tip on the rusty spots. This will remove some of the loose rust particles and render the "saturated" rusty spots darker in appearance, so the overall looks of the cross will be certainly improved.

                            Cheers, Frank H.

                              cleanup of my L/12 screwback

Thanks Frank. I'll certainly try that. I just want to arrest the rust and oxidation development without trying to alter the appearancen to any great extant.

Thanks to all for your inputs.

                              Steve
