EK1 Gablonz

Hi all,

I would like to show you my new addition. This screw back EK1.

This type of cross with the small hole on reverse was declared as reproduction or post war piece for a long time. Maybe because most of this crosses are seen with replaced reproduction core. Some bigger quantities of this crosses were ground dug in past ( mainly in Czech Republic area ), were cleaned and their corroded steel cores were replaced with reproduction cores. This badly influenced the reputation of this pieces.

Always when I come across an untouched original piece, I am happy to add it to my collection. I already have 3 pieces. See bellow. See the differences of the black paint thickness on each example. Still looking for a nice pin back variant.

There is a high possibility that this crosses were produced in Gablonz at the end of war. They are available with screw back or pin back. I personally think they were produced in Walter & Henlein company in Gablonz. Unfortunately there is no written period evidence of this.

I agree with you and I too like it these types , but for me yet missing this the screw back type , because always just or expensive or modified or have in very bad in condition .

There was a lot of discussions about EK1-1939 "with a hole" - the conclusions are ambiguous.

Hi Pavel,
As you know I'm still a believer in these and holding on to the two examples you found for me! Congratulations on the new one, it is in really nice condition. And as you know from the local history of Gablonz, the idea that these were made there immediately postwar for souvenirs is highly unlikely. I wish there was documented evidence to show their production, but I believe that by the time these were produced late in the war a lot of things were being done ad hoc.

I have a SB version, and I don't doubt the authenticity.

Have seen a few pinback, but I refuse to pay 500 Euro for one of those....
But I am very confident that I will find an affordable one someday.

Hi Ben,

If you talk about crosses EK1-1939 "with a hole", then please go to the Czech portal www.aukro.cz, you will buy this cross without problem for much less and less money
