Souval Knights cross core two piece construction

I have bought this core here a while ago, I think it is made by Rudolf Souval in Vienna, to my surprise I´ve seen it is a two piece construction made out of iron sheet with two marks to avoid rotation of these two parts, is this also known for war time production pieces from other manufacturers?


I know that all Souval pieces are postwar, but I would like to ask if this was also done by other makers?

I believe early St&L 1957 type of KC's were also made same way.
Front side with 1939 date and oaks ( hollow back ) and a blank back side with 1813 date ( hollow back).

Me too,, the reason is, I´ve never unsoldered one, this one comes without the frames, I did not recognize it on the first sight, I noticed it because of the weight in the hand, I expected a little more, after a closer look I find the reason for the light weight.


Mathijs, I guess this kind of stamping is a little bit easier to handle but you need more tools and additional cutting devices, anyway, I find this is a very interesting observation.


Maybe also for the grand crosses made by Souval?

yes, souval in his final years I believe made 2 piece cores, back in the 80's I had several, which I took apart, (They were feather light), they also had the little circle

The 2 circle that you see in the 2 pieces core are 2 spot welding point made by electrical machine
that weld the parts by little electric arc by 2 noise.

We have many type of noise for many Ø of welding points and for many applications.

Souval’s Grand Cross series follows the same pattern. The early production crosses use a one piece core, while the later production crosses use a two piece core.

The GK on the top right shows a later Souval GK using the two piece core. The ones next to it are all the solid one piece core design.
