    Hello,
I guess no. I have some EK's with a smaller ring as usual. For instance a round 3 and a mm16.

      old age is a bitch...

i remember reading somewhere that the
smaller ring was made for medal bar use,
but cannot remember for the life of me
      where i read it.....

this is quite a clear distinction between the two.

looking forward to hearing some more thoughts.

I have seven Third Reich medal bars. I just checked and they all have the standard large ring.

the cross on the left is a typical "klein und quenzer". i have never seen a K&Q ek2 with such a ring so maybe the ring was replaced to wear the cross on a medal bar.

            I have an unmounted 1813 EK2 with a small ring, a 1914 EK2 on a 6 piece medal bar with a large ring, and 2 1939 Schinkelform B's, each with small rings.

The 1914 EK2 with the large ring sits absolutely level with the rest of the awards on the medal bar - and Chris will probably testify the same - so it seems the small ring is not a necessity on medal bar mountings

Whatever the original design intentions of the small ring (replacements, or just a different manufacturers slant on things) there is certainly no pattern to there use.

I used to think medal bar mounts, now I think it more likely you just get what you got...

all interesting thoughts gents, it could well be a replacement...
it's the smallest ring I've seen/had and the ribbon has a hard time fitting in...
              regards

The left EK is not a K&Q, i would look at a 21 or 20 for compare Godet or Zimmerman.

mikael, you still think that it is not a K&Q but a Zimmermann/Godet?

                        hi mikael,

Klein und Quenzer used two different cores, i once wrote an article about that in a german forum.
