    Interesting First Pattern Spange

You see the First Patterns of the EK Spangen often enough, but here's one that was new to me: a First Pattern EK 2 Spange marked with an "800" silver content mark.

    Reverse, with "800" designation.

This Spange is virtually identical to another one I have. But a major difference between the two is this "brushing" effect on the feathers of the "800" version. The other's Spange's feathers are blank.

And there's also "brushing" behind the swaz -- instead of the usual pebbling. All in all an interesting piece, and a welcome addition to my flock of birds!

Very nice George ... where did ya get it?

I like that detail to the feathers on the wings ...

            Very interesting George.

You say 'virtually' identical.....is it only the brushing that differentiates this from the more 'traditional' 1st pattern of this style...or are there other details that would suggest a different die?

To me the heads look a little different, but that could be due to different finishing. Otherwise, the only difference I see is the "brushing" effect. Here is the other Early-type Spange.

(Darrell, I got it from Detlev.)

                Yes....definitely the same.

Customised and stamped by a jeweller who wasn't the (unknown) manufacturer possibly?

Possibly. Like I said, it's interesting.
