315 born in area of today´s Austria
118 from k.u.k. crown lands (Bohemia, Bukovina, Hungary including Slovakia, Istria etc.)
8 foreign Austrians from Spain, USSR or Lettland

Florian Berger: Ritterkreuzträger aus Österreich und den k.u.k. Kronländern, published 2006 (still available on Amazon).

There are many sources giving different numbers of RK winners from K.u.K. crown lands, because some of them count only ethnic Germans living at that territory, and some of the include also Hungarians, Slovaks and other nationalities from former Austria-Hungary.

if no valid information, you can always count by yourself from knight cross recipient database.

As far as I know the former Austrian Leutnant Josef STOLZ was the first awardee of the new KC for service in the Polish campaign.
                      Best, Peter
