It is a Eugen Schmidhäußler spange. It is not silver as there are no silver spanges, just a frosting that is applied. Jim

Very nice Schmidthaussler spange for me as well and for a very good price. When new it "new silber" (withish) finish like the back, with wear it takes on a nice, rich dark patina like the front. Mine is the same.I know they didiint use solid silver but I suspect a thin silver plating to get that patina...
