In late 1940 early 1941, the WWI U-Boat veterans organization decided to recognize
U-Boat commanders who were awarded the Knight‘s Cross of the Iron Cross. According to the author Duwe, 91 plates were commissioned with some being presented after the war. One exception to the presentation criteria was Admiral Schultze who received his „teller“ for his leadership in forming the U-Boat branch of the German Navy. Would be interesting to see how many plates are in collections today, my two:
