Cased Godet 900 21 Oakleaves and swords for review.

    Hi guys,

thought it would be nice sharing this set with you. Second pattern Godet oakleaves and swords in the case of issue. The oaks are marked with 900 & 21. The swords show intense wear with almost no finish present anymore, only in the deeper parts you can spot some fragments of it. A gorgeous patina developed over it. Beside some wear marks the swords are in a beautiful and crisp condition with all the typical die flaws you would expect to see on genuine swords. Case is fine too and comes with an unused full length ribbon, on the edges it's a bit worn-out from laying in the case and touching the edge for 75 years. Swords in worn condition are very hard to obtain as most pieces on the market come from the Klessheim hoard… not something for my collection as i don't like to collect drawer pieces. I have no info about the recipient, quite frustrating but on the other hand i can appreciate the mystery behind such a high bravery award. A silent witness of the war as they say that reflects the combat skill and heroism of the recipient.
I have this set for quite a while in my collection and it's a shame i only see it few times in a year as it spents it's modern life in a vault… these modern days you know

How could plain old tarnish be "gorgeous patina?"

That stuff would come off in a second with tranish remover and look like it did the day it left Godet.

How is that a bad thing?

                  What am I missing?

Nice set, always nice seeing one of these.

Worn or unworn, I like them all.

Mint pieces jump into your face with their beautiful polished and frosted surface textures against a black background of the award case. You see what the recipient saw the day AH handed him this beautiful, high award.

A worn award with patina, its frosting partially or fully lost, reflects months or years of continuous exposure to combat situations. A lot of character.

I think every collection of KCs and grades should have a blend of both worn and mint pieces.

                              Markus
