Cased Iron Cross 2nd Class

When I say I haven't seen one like this before, it doesn't mean much, there is a lot I haven't seen!
The ribbon is fitted into the case bottom, the case is unmarked. Don't see any markings on the ring.

I'm not an EK expert but, I don't think they came in a fitted case with the ribbon attached to the cross.
IMO, it looks more like a Mutterkruez case to me.

My thought too, regards the case. And the ribbon looks somewhat 'fresher' than the cross. Nice case, nice cross, but thinking they don't belong together.
