    Iron Core, Brass Core

    We know that iron, brass, and zink was in use for the core.
    Was there any iron core with zink plating ?

          Dear Peter,

          I do have an EK1 with copper plating over the magnetic iron core. Can you guys guess the maker? It also has a brass FRAME, btw.

                to me the cross is 100% a early deumer, sometimes marked "11"....


                99% of the forum do not believe that; they claim that the cross was made by "grossmann, 11 "


                i believe so because:

                1) why does a chopper plated ek is marked with a präsidialkanzleinummer?
                2) the same type of pin is found on L/11 marked KVK
                3) the obverse matches exactly with deumer EK's
                4) ek2 marked "11" look very different to any ek1 m.m. "11"

                in my mind good arguments but noone is of the same opinion.....

                  Good arguments, yes, but are why would Deumer mark an EK "11"? On the examples I've seen the mark is well struck. They don't look like the "L/" was struck so lightly as to be invisible. Or are you suggesting that Deumer's maker mark stamp was in two parts, "L/" and "11"? Is that really likely?

                    you are absolutely right. the "11" do not come from the same die as the L/ 11 but neither does the "11" mark from grossmann ek2.


                    i don't know why deumer should stamp their eks only with 11, but there are sooo many things especially in the ek sector that are really mysterious like schinkel eks, eks with round three, eks with unmagnetic core... etc etc....

                    we all know that these variants were produced agaist instructions, so why can't it be possible that a firm made a mistake and thought to stamp their LDO pieces only with "11" instead of L/11...

                        my personal opinion about the cronological order of the production of deumer ek1:


                        1st patter)unmarked with chopper core and flat pin (frank's piece)
                        2nd p.)marked "11" with copper core and flat pin
                        3rd p.)marked L/11 WITHOUT box, and now already with the typical pin in the shape of a "sword" (same type found on S+L
                        4th p.) doublemarked "3" and "L/11 in box" with typical pin
                        5th p.) marked "L/11 in box", typical needle
                        6th p.) marked "3" with typical needle....

                            Here's another like Frank's.


                            I've never seen a flat wire clasp on an early Deumer so I'd be surprised if that is what it is.
