EK 2 carton ?

I have spent a bit of time having a reorganisation of my collection and came a cross this carton which I have had for years .The EK 2 came with the carton that much I do remember ,the carton looks homemade ,the cross is a tight fit as you can see.Perhaps an old cigarette packet ?
In addition can anyone suggest a maker for the cross?

The box was for sure for something else ... cannot tell what it was .
The cross might be a Brehmer ... better close up pictures needed .

I really don't think its period because I have never seen this type of private purchase etui before and the cross IMO is not a good fit.
Says on the lid EK .2. 2.K.L with an image of the medal which looks printed rather than hand painted.Apologies for the poor pics.
