While wasting some time perusing various things, I came across a photo of Dietrich von Saucken, the last winner of the Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds. A familiar image to be sure, but my attention previously had always centered on his head wound/disfigurement and of course, his monocle.
Today for some reason, I noticed that the cord from his monocle appears to be fastened to his decoration worn at the time. I found another photo of him on the 'net, and it too appears to be fastened in the same way.
Are my eyes deceiving me? I know nothing about attaching a monocle to one's person, but this seems to me to be a curious, and possibly unique method.
