    Night of the Generals

Just a very minor sidelight this morning.

I always thought the RK with Oakleaves worn by Peter O'Toole in the the film "Night of the Generals" (1967) looked really nice on-screen. Finally saw a good photo which solved where it came from.

          Night of the Generals

          Hi Gentry,
That is a great film and a great cross. Do you notice every general in that film is wearing a 1939 2nd Class EK ribbon.

          Regards,
          Jody

And one even gets to wear the WW1 version (with clasp) on his ribbon bar and the WW2 version in his buttonhole. (Note the EK2 used as an RK.)

I found it interesting that O’Toole was portrayed first as an army General and later as an SS General via some inter-organizational transfer I would presume. I know Lt.Gen. Wilhelm Schmalz (Luftwaffe HG div) started out as army cavalry and I’ve heard the there were quite a number of Heer Artillery officers who found themselves in KM Coastal Artillery but I wonder if anyone has an idea how often this happened?

Great movie with good effort to uniforms. Yes Rick, always found that odd. Worked tho.
