    KVK1 with swords, L/17

    Evening all,

Here is something bright to lighten up Black Friday, a quite scarce War Merit Cross by L/17 Hermann Wernstein.

The cross is a lovely tombac, factory vaulted example that came in its original case.

    Jamie,
A lovely example of a Wernstein KVK1/swords. Definitely seldom encountered. I would suggest that this cross is a zinc example and not tombac. Might you share the case as well with us?

    Zinc stinks!

Chey, you are indeed correct sir, zinc it is.

I took it at face value, the copperish glow under the silver (which may not show so well in the photo) had me.

But I weighed the cross and at 21 grams it is the same as the known weight for this award by Wernstein, the tombac version being over a gram heavier.

      Case to follow.

      Cheers

      Jamie

Very hard cross to find, yes. I really like the convex shape.
