    German hate belt w/ 7 badges and WW2 EK1 "65" Cross,WW1 badges help!

    Hi all!

Recently picked this up and was wondering what everyone thought. I purchased this from the son of the owner, who won this in a basement poker tournament in the 1970's The belt has a nice S.A. political buckle, and 8 various badges including a EK1 maker marked on the bent pin "65". There is a WW2 Luftwaffe insignia, but the remaining insignia appear from WW1 or prior. I find it strange that a WW2 belt would have so many WW1 badges, perhaps it was taken off a veteran of both wars? Of particular interest is the badge with two crossed horses, which is unlike anything German I have seen before. If anyone could help identify these badges I would greatly appreciate it. I am unsure if it is worth taking the Iron Cross off the belt as I do not want to damage either of them.

    Thanks and enjoy

Unfortunately, I can't see the off-site hosted pic. I saw it's on photobucket, but for some reason my laptop won't display it. Such is life.

Hi Ludwig, "Hatebelts" were belts with allied or foreign badges put on them as decoration, usually as captured items but often badges traded between soldiers.

My apologies for the photos, photobucket has been having many technical issues this last week. Here are a few more of the cross in a case everyone cannot see them.

Nice belt, Stu. Two of the badges shown with lettering are from WW1 German veteran organizations/associations. If it were mine, I would definitely not remove the 1939 EK1 as it is integral to the trophy belt.

Hi "Ludwig" - I personally do not like the term "hate belt" as is often used for such souvenir belts. I much prefer to call them "trophy belts". You can see two of mine in this thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=571985

The cross horse heads are lower Saxon Gable/horseheads (niedersächsische Pferdeköpfe als Giebelschmuck)
