B&NL SC in silver, opinions please

Ran into this SC in silver w.out swords.
    Marked for B&NL.

I did some searching on the forum, but everything I found was pretty inconclusive.

What throws me off is the P&L catch, did B&NL buy stock from P&L when they went out of business?

A good looking cross, but I would like to hear some opinions since it is not my field of collecting.

    Thanks in advance !

I didn't think B&NL made Spain Crosses (or made crosses marked as such).

Probably stock that was sold after Schickle had to close.
Did uiu check out the link that was posted by Chris H?

Yes, and I have no doubt about the authenticity of your Schickle cross (or the one in Chris H's post). It's just every cross I've seen on WAF stamped "B&NL" has either been deemed a repro or claimed to have the stamped B&NL mark added post-war - or so I thought.

              I'm always learning here.

Scott, I couldn’t really find much info.
But it is very well possible the BN&L bought left-over stock when Schickle was put out of business.

There are textbook Schickle ek1clasps around with a legit L/18 mark.

The SC just arrived, the marking was applied before the cross was plated.

Hey Ben, I had the impression as others have that the B&NLs were all copies. Further, assuming it's not silver, it doesn't make sense a non-silver example would have a company logo instead of a LDO number or none.

                    Hi George,

the cross is a textbook Schickle.

                    It is silver-plated.
I can't explain the logo, but there are ore weird things appearing from time to time.

The cross however is 100 % authentic.

Maybe time to reconsider the BN&L marked SC's??

Over the years a lot of "oddities" were deemed fake, while later they turned out to be odd originals.

When I posted a textbook Mayer pinback marked L/50 (in Mayer-style) I received a lot of negative comments.
Now they are very sought after....

The same goes for some one-piece ek's and schinkels.
It usually takes a while before they get "accepted"

                        No it is a Schicle.

                        With bnl stamp.

                        Still a Schicklr.
