    EK2 1939 65 - Question about difference between frames

    Hello Guys,

I received this EK2 today. This EK2 has a difference between frames in a quarter. The reverse frame is larger at this point.

    Is it a good 65 EK2?

    Regards,
    Schmidt

Still a good 65 . Possibly a trimming error that was left ?

is there any scratch? Maybe somebody wanted to open the frame. Such piece would be highly unlike to leave the prodiction in official way.

The frame is not larger, as you can see from the reverse and obverse, the frame has separated at the top and shifted to one side making it appear wider.

Please, take a look at the pictures again. If you look at the front the defect is on the right, but if you look at the back of the EK is on the right too. If the frame would be open the “defect” should be on the right if it is on the front and on the left if we look at the back.

If we find the “defecto or fault on the right looking at the front an at the back... only means that is on both sides...

So, if you look carefully at the pictures, clearly the front top left corner in wider, but also the back at the same place.

                A rarity

Think about what you are saying.
Please try something for me, take two pieces of paper, line them up together and then slide the one facing you to the left a bit.
I think you will understand when you try this.
                  Ralph.

Yes, si did and confirm that the fault is on both sides, left and right. If the frame www moved to the left you will see the same fault on right arm too... and you only see on top arm...

I made a paper EK as you can see on the pictures. First photo show both sides completely squared. Second one, the top arm a bit moved. As you can see, the fault is visible in more sides not only on top. This means that this cross has, clearly, one side longer as I said before.

The back of the cross is paint in black to let see clearly the moved frame

The confusion is arising because the dodgy frame corners are obvious at the same time. Only one dodgy corner shows when we look at the obverse and or the reverse. I’m very surprised this Ek was even constructed actually. A practice piece for a newbie worker to try out some soldering perhaps???

The strange thing is that the error is on both sides. And in the same place. The left corner of the top arm is longer on the front and on the back. If you unsolder the cross and take the front side of it and turn face down onto the reverse surely the top left corner will match in length.

Surely a noob iron cross maker
