Any idea what this huge Spange was made for?

Any idea, what this huge zinc Spange was made for? It will look great displayed in a frame with my other Spanges. Now to find it’s ribbon.😀

Hi Dietrich,
I thought that too in my other thread.😀 Maybe it was created for those that won the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross in both wars. Since Göring was the only recipient in WWII, it was never awarded.😂

Still it is very well made.

Since the masters where usually much larger than the resulting medals/badges...A master (or a casting of a master) from which dies were made using a pentograph (or whatever these reducing duplicator machines were called) ?

Not that I am aware of Tony but I'm far from an expert on EK spanges and only know the most common types. However, from what little I have seen, the double veins in the feathers is very unusual trait for TR birds (spanges or otherwise) and it brought this summer uniform eagle from my collection to mind which I beleive is an Assmann product.

However, I've never seen an EK spange attributed to this maker or if they ever made them from their own dies or just sourced them from another supplier for resale but a "generic" looking 1st & second class spange line drawings do appear in their catalog...
