    KVKI w/ Swords, "L15", Opinions

    Hello everyone,

I would like some opinions on this KVKI with swords.

Marked "L15". I know that there are Floch fakes of these. Hinge and catch look fine to me, but I want to make sure. Surface of the badge has some wear with tombak color showing through.

    Thanks,

    Hayden

              Hi Hayden,

Looks the same as mine except I always tought mine was a zinker (not tombac) because of the oval mounting plates for the hardware. On tombac specimens, the hinge & catch are usually welded directly to the back of the cross?

              Best regards

                JC,
Firstly, your cross is a beautiful tombac example. Secondly, Orth is not known to have produced any zinc KvK1s The crosses found marked "L15" are an anomaly when it comes to hardware.

Great! Thank you very much for the insight Chet! The slightly "flaky" finish and the hardware had me thinking this was just a very well preserved zink badge...

I guess this would explain why I didnt break into a rash when handling it because like you, I'm not a great fan of zink either when I can avoid it

                  Best regards

                  JC
