RK case question!

Hello all....we have seen some Knight's Cross cases which were sort of left in limbo regarding being pre '45.

The question was regarding the molded 'cut-out' for the cross because it was a sort of pasteboard rather than the pressed and 'hallmarked' type. These cases had all of the attributes we look for in a case with the exception of this bed area.


Those who have these undetermined cases...have a look at these pics and please advise if the construction and especially the 'board' are similar

Yes, that looks alot like the "indeterminate" piece I have. It does not glow and has animal glue, but has no impressed area for the cross. Further, it has that funny catch release and "board" material, rather than the greyish cardboard.

That is interesting. Dave, you also have one of these "intederminate" cases as well, don't you? Do you think that these may actually be wartime?

That's the catch Tom....! I may have sent a 'bargain' back just last week because I wasn't convinced it was period.


The case I have has been authenticated by Harald Geissler as being period but I haven't had the (heart) to pull it apart.

It is exactly like the case I returned in all aspects....I just can't comment on the 'board'! I might have been premature

It's very common in WW1 cases to have the "chipboard" in the bases of the cases. I have a Prussian Pilots badge in a Juncker case and it has the base made of this "chipboard" material. I would say that early WW2 cases may have been made this way prior to pressed cardboard being used in the construction of later cases.
