    Advice on this Knight's Cross

    Hello all,

Since my knowledge on Knight's Crosses is very limited and I don't want to make a huge financial blunder, I'm asking you subject matter experts to lend me your opinion on the following piece. Below is the seller's description:

GERMAN WWII KNIGHTS CROSS TO THE IRON CROSS MARKED 800 2 (LAZY 2) FOR C.E.JUNKER BERLIN, THREE PIECE CONSTRUCTION ,INCLUDES THE ISSUE NECK RIBBON WITH TIES,THE LOOP IS MARKED 800

I asked the seller to provide me with more detailed pics...I should get them in a day or two. I appreciate everybody's help and time.

    Mark

As others have said, the cross is a modern fake. Also, I've never seen an original neck ribbon w/ those miniature EK ribbon ties. The ribbons (RK EK that is) came without ties, folded into the rectangular space in the case. When the award was made the cross and ribbon were more than likely pinned around the recipients neck. Later, the RKT would have the ribbon modified to be worn w/ his uniform. When you see these little EK ribbon ties, you can almost bet the hunk of metal attached to it has problems!

                  Andy,
I agree 100% with your assesment of the above KC, as even the large ribbon is a fake on this one. But in regards to the small ribbons used as ties, it is very possible that in general these have been used on original set-ups so the fact that a KC has the smaller ribbons as ties does not necessarily make it an instant fake. What gives away the fact that most of them are fake is that 99% never even show any signs of having been tied and showing signs of a knot on them.

                  Regards,
                  Brett
